Lesson 5: Personalized Connection Requests

Why do some goals fail? Often, it’s because they’re too vague, overly ambitious, or lack resources.

  • Writing polite and personalized messages: Reference how you know the person or why you want to connect.

Example: "Hi [Name], I noticed we share a passion for software development and attended the same school. I’d like to connect and learn from your experiences."

  • Avoiding generic connection requests: Stand out by mentioning shared interests or goals.

    Increase connection acceptance rates

    1. Go beyond the [minimum] All-Star status and be more thorough, have a professional photo, a detailed work history, relevant skills, and endorsements.
    2. Sharing mutual connections increases trust.
    3. Personalizing requests shows that you have invested time.
    4. Working in or being affiliated with the same industry can show you have similar interests.
    5. Sending requests during or immediately following events significantly increases acceptances.
